EMMA DENNING, MAC, LPC

I’m a queer-identified therapist who specializes in helping women and gender-expansive adults struggling with difficult childhood memories, who want to stop people-pleasing and start feeling secure in themselves. If you find yourself continually saying, “I am so f***ing done with this!” then this is a welcome space for you.

Who I serve:

I see individual adults of all genders who are discovering there is a disconnect within themselves of who they currently are and who they want to be. This might mean feeling like “I know what’s wrong and I can’t seem to make it better” to “I don’t know what’s wrong but something definitely isn’t working!” I work with folks that are navigating complex trauma, ADHD, religious trauma & political turmoil, kink/BDSM & polyamorous dynamics, and people who are nervous about entering therapy for the very first time.

I specialize in providing affirming and compassionate care to Millennial and GenZ women, and gender-expansive folks, that were raised by emotionally immature/narcissistic parents, as well as people who struggle with Perfectionism and people-pleasing.

We might a good fit if…

You’re looking for a therapist that values providing clients with direct and honest feedback, while also being non-judgmental and laidback. A therapist who doesn’t care if you curse in session (as long as you don’t mind that I will too!) and who wants to join with you in a back-and-forth dialogue where you might occasionally be challenged, and who loves when clients correct me when I might get it wrong sometimes, because we’re both humans and I’m not a “sit in a big chair while client lies on the couch” kind of therapist.

I wear band t-shirts to session and change my hair color every 6 weeks. I encourage clients to color, fidget, and eat/snack in sessions; whatever they need that day, I am here for it. If you need to scream into a pillow sometimes too, rock on.

My therapy vibe:

My primary goal in becoming a therapist was to help people kick some ass in their lives (metaphorically speaking).

A tiny bit about me personally:

On any given day when I am not in sessions, you can find me annoying my cat, spending time with my partner, in a yoga class, or discovering a new restaurant. I love dressing up to go to renaissance festivals and have not grown out of playing video games (shout out to my fellow cozy-gamers!).

Being a full-time mental health counselor is one of the biggest privileges of my life, and I am so grateful to have a job that forces me to stay humble and interact with such a diverse community of people. I believe an important part of being a therapist is having your own therapist (AKA my client’s grandtherapist) and seeking consultation amongst experienced peers so that your own sh*t doesn’t spill over into client sessions.
